Why Progressive Strength Training?

Muscle strength and muscle mass naturally change as we age, particularly during midlife and beyond.

Progressive strength training helps counter these changes by gradually challenging the muscles through resistance exercises, encouraging them to become stronger and adapt over time.

Regular resistance training can help:

  • Build and maintain lean muscle mass

  • Support a healthy metabolism

  • Improve body composition

  • Promote bone health

  • Improve muscular endurance and overall physical fitness

How Does Strength Training Complement Yoga?

At Foundations Yoga and Therapy, we recognize the value of incorporating different forms of movement into a well-rounded fitness routine.

Yoga and progressive strength training share many benefits, including improvements in muscular strength, flexibility, balance, joint mobility, and stability.

  • Yoga incorporates these elements through a variety of postures and movement practices.

  • Progressive resistance training provides a systematic approach to building muscular strength and muscle mass through gradually increasing physical challenges.

Together, they offer complementary approaches to developing and maintaining overall physical fitness.
