Curious About Reiki?

REIKI_edited.png

Maybe someone told you how much they enjoy Reiki.

Maybe you’ve experienced Reiki before and are looking for a place to continue your practice near Madison.

Perhaps you’re simply curious about what Reiki is and what a session is like.

At Foundations Yoga and Therapy, Reiki is offered as a private, one-on-one experience with one of our Certified Reiki Master Teachers.

You don’t need any prior experience with Reiki or a complete understanding of how it works before scheduling a session.

You can simply come with curiosity and experience Reiki for yourself.

What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy-based practice used to support relaxation, stress reduction, and an overall sense of balance and well-being.

During a Reiki session, you remain fully clothed while a Certified Reiki Master Teacher places their hands gently on or slightly above different areas of the body. The practice is based on the concept of working with the body’s energy to encourage balance and relaxation.

Reiki does not require a particular spiritual or religious belief, and you do not need to understand its philosophy to experience a session.

At Foundations Yoga and Therapy, Reiki is offered as a complementary practice and is not a substitute for medical or mental-health care.

Why Are People Exploring Reiki?

There's no single reason.

People come to Reiki for many different reasons. Some seek support during periods of increased stress, change, or emotional overwhelm. Others want intentional time to rest, reset, and step away from the mental overload and constant demands of daily life. For many, Reiki provides a dedicated opportunity to slow down when doing so on their own feels difficult.

For people who want the benefits of a regular meditation or reflective practice but have difficulty establishing one on their own, Reiki can offer another way to create that intentional time. Regular sessions provide a dedicated opportunity to become quiet, turn your attention inward, and reconnect with what matters to you.

At Foundations Yoga and Therapy, each Reiki session also includes time before and after the hands-on portion of the session for conversation and reflection. Your Reiki Master Teacher creates space for reflection without judgment or expectation. Over time, these conversations can help you recognize patterns, gain personal insights, and become clearer about the changes or goals that are important to you.

Reiki also asks very little of you in the moment. There is nothing to perform, accomplish, analyze, or practice during the hands-on portion of the session. You can simply receive the session and allow yourself time away from everything else competing for your attention.

You do not need a particular problem to solve or a specific reason to schedule Reiki. Some people come for stress reduction, some for reflection and personal growth, and others simply want a consistent practice that gives them time to reconnect with themselves.

You don't need a specific reason to schedule Reiki.

What Does Reiki Feel Like?

Everyone’s experience with Reiki is different, and your experience may even vary from one session to the next.

At Foundations Yoga and Therapy, Reiki sessions take place on a massage table with a heated amethyst BioMat. The gentle warmth of the BioMat creates a comfortable place to settle in and is something many clients particularly enjoy during their sessions.

Many people describe a sense of deep relaxation during Reiki. In addition to the warmth of the BioMat, you may notice tingling, a feeling of heaviness or lightness, or other subtle physical sensations. You may also notice very little physically and simply experience the session as quiet and restorative.

Your mind may become quieter as the session progresses, or thoughts may continue to come and go. There is no need to clear your mind, concentrate, or try to make anything happen. Reiki does not require you to achieve a particular state in order to experience the session.

For some people, one of the most valuable parts of Reiki is simply having uninterrupted time when nothing is being asked of them—no conversation to maintain, no task to complete, and no more input to process.

There is no particular way you are supposed to experience Reiki. You can simply notice what arises and allow the session to unfold.
