Shamatha, peaceful or calm abiding meditation, dates back to over 2500 years ago. While practicing this ancient technique, one is working on befriending the mind in this moment versus transcending the mind. Shamatha technique is about learning how to rest your awareness on the breath while being in the present moment.
This workshop will cover:
- The foundations of mindfulness
- Identifying common obstacles to a successful mediation practice
- Simple suggestions for integrating the practice of Shamatha meditation into your daily routine
- The points of posture for mediation
- RAIN technique in meditation
Participants will have the opportunity to experience a brief history of the Buddhist path, the rationale behind practicing Shamatha meditation. Specific techniques will be practiced during each 45 minute class. Each class will conclude wth a follow up discussion and an opportunity to journal.
An informational hand out will be provided.
This workshop will be guided by Cheryl Wilson, a Mindfulness Meditation Instructor.
